Electronic cigarettes - are they effective?
There is some evidence that e-cigarettes can help people quit smoking. In one study, people who used e-cigarettes were more likely to succeed in quitting smoking than those who didn’t use them. However, other studies have found that e-cigarettes are no more effective than other quitting aids, such as nicotine gum or patches.
There is also concern that e-cigarettes may be a gateway to smoking for young people. Some studies have found that e-cigarette use is associated with an increased risk of smoking in young people. However, it’s not clear if this is because e-cigarettes are a gateway to smoking, or if young people who are already interested in smoking are more likely to try e-cigarettes.
So, what does all this evidence mean? There is still much we don’t know about the long-term effects of e-cigarette use. However, if you’re trying to quit smoking, e-cigarettes may be worth a try. Just be sure to talk to your doctor first to see if they’re right for you.
